Biography of Professor Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo
Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo is Professor of Political Science
and Herbert J. Charles and Florence Charles Faegre Professor of Political
Science, and he was the Chair of the Department of International Studies
from 1999 to 2002 at Wells College, Aurora, New York. He was also Visiting
Senior Fellow between 1992 and 2001 at the Institute for African Development
at Cornell University, and he is also Visiting Scholar at the Department
of City and Regional at Cornell University. He also is a Research Associate
at Institut d’Ethno-Sociologie, Université de Cocody Côte
d’Ivoire, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa).
Since May 1, 2003, Professor Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo has
also been appointed as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for the
Study of International Cooperation in Education at Hiroshima University,
Higashi-Hiroshima, Japan, where he is serving for two years.
In the Biennial 13th Congress of the African Association
of Political Science (AAPS) that was held in Durban, South Africa, between
June 24 and 29, 2003, Professor Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo was elected a member
of the Executive Committee of the African Association of Political Science
(AAPS) and Vice President of the AAPS--representing the Central African
Region.
He is the Co-Founder and Director of CEPARRED (Centre
Panafricain d’Etudes et de Recherches en Relations Internationales et en
Éducation pour Développement) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
He studied at Université Libre du Congo where he
earned Diplôme de licence with honors and agrégation;
at Harvard University he received a masters degree, and at University of
Chicago, he obtained an additional masters degree and a Ph.D.

Third World Studies Review; Published in Omaha, Nebraska; and is Co-editor
of "International Journal of Comparative Sociology (IJCS) published in
Leiden, The Netherlands. He is also on the Editorial Committee of
the Journal of Comparative Education and International Relations in Africa
(JEDIRAF), Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire; he is in charge of book reviews
and research projects of the JEDIRAF.
