Subject: Agenda for meeting Friday 25 April 8:30 Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 14:52:23 -0400 From: Scott Heinekamp To: plan@wells.edu Wells College Provisionally Entitled Post-CIAC Agenda for Friday 25 April 2003 8:30 -- 11 am Dear all -- a numbered agenda with some thoughts alongside. Forgive typos. All "lists" are e.g. -- Scott 1. Suggestions for PS: (a) "Wells College can no longer subsist as an independent liberal arts institution, without a dependable outside stream of revenue" (Steve) (b) "We should not constrain ourselves entirely to reevaluation of CIAC; where new promising avenues appear, we should be prepared to take them" ; (c) "How do we secure the sustainability of WC as an institution defined by its Charter and its Mission Statement?" (Tom) -- Both implicitly carry our sense that we are not planning to abandon Wells as a LA college for women (Catalog Mission Statement, Institutional Goals, and emergent Program Goals). Anything else is fair game. 2. Suggestions for CHARGE: (a) "identify for implementation one or more radical enhancements to program, targeted to consumers outside the Wells student body" (Steve) (b) to work through the outline, processing CIAC's ideas and other ones too (Tom) [CIAC did generate "large" ideas which were not pursued. The Leadership Institute experience was a sobering influence in our work.] 3. Suggestions for NAME: . . . TEAM . Sustainability; Identify & Build/Improve/Capitalize on Strengths;Clarity of the Problem Team; Core LAW Mission; New Initiatives; Synthesing and Completing our Plan(s) [CIAC/new curriculum/tuition nicheing/other] 4. Review of CIAC review of the institution: Summary of working group's reports --> outcome as tuition cut; 5. Discussion of Evident Specific Strengths of Wells as Outsiders might see them Book Arts; Overseas Affiliated Programs; Education; Expert Faculty; Physical Plant, Seasonal/Geographic Attributes
