Bob Dentan, dubbed "The Prince
of Peace" in anthropology cirlces, is a world renowned anthropologist and
scholar of peace.
Dentan's work among the Semai,
a peaceable nation of swidden-horticultural people in Malaysia, has provided
him with an understanding of the social and cultural mechanisms Semai use
to avoid violence,
even in the face of external threat.
Dentan's work with the Semai has
brought him wisdom useful for thinking about the United States' procilivity
toward violent solutions to conflict.
