Math 151 Fall '11, SPSS for your own
SPSS is a powerful computer package that does statistical analyses
of data. We will learn how to use some of its features this
It is absolutely not required that you get it for your own machine.
The lab copies should be adequate unless you have trouble
getting to a
lab, or the only time you can get to a lab is always
the busiest time. If you have a Windows computer of your own and
want SPSS for it, read on.
Version 19 will be in the labs. (V. 18 was used last
term. ) The main new thing is it's
now "IBM SPSS" instead of "PASW" and
some icons have changed from red to IBM blue.
- You can "rent" the full version of SPSS
(version 19) for 6 months
for $39.99. Go to www.onthehub.com/spss.
Statistics Base GradPack is sufficient for
this course. Windows only.
- You can buy a "student version" $112.80
(plus shipping?). This will time bomb 13 months after
installation! Version 18 is the latest
IBM® SPSS® Statistics Student
Version 18.0 for Windows and Mac OS X
Format: CD-ROM Only
Suggested retail price: $112.80

student or educator to get it, but I don't know how this is
Here's the link to buy it from Pearson. http://www.mypearsonstore.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=0321675371&xid=PSED
Directtextbook.com offers other sellers. Some angry
customers complained they had trouble authorizing it, even new, from
Amazon, because Amazon wasn't an "authorized dealer"--so I'd be
cautious. I don't know if a
used version will continue to work. It may start
fresh for you
but it may die 13 months after the original user installed it.
(Knowing SPSS, if they can make that happen, they will.)
