Some excerpts from experts in
the field of facilities campus master planning.
Prepared as information for the APPC Subcommittee on Long Range and
Strategic Planning, 3 May 2001
"A well conceived master plan creates a clear and precise vision of
where the institution should go and how it should get there, ensuring that
individual projects will fit properly into the whole overall institutional
vision. In simple terms, master plans allow a reasonable anticipation of
what is going to happen.
The benefits of Master Planning
-
To ensure that your facilities support your strategic plan.
-
To create a shared vision within your institution
-
To make better use of your existing site and facilities.
-
to anticipate your future site and facility needs.
-
To avoid waste and disruption resulting from piecemeal projects.
-
To establish a realistic schedule and capital budget.
-
To unify the aesthetic asset of your campus.
-
To enhance credibility with lending institutions.
-
To focus and energize your fund raising and development efforts."

Education Officers, 1995], pp.1-2)
"...physical plans must be both general and specific; they must be concerned
with immediate requirements as well as long-range considerations; they
must cover the campus environs as well as specific building sites; and
they must implement today’s educational goals while at the same time encourage
if they can, but not hinder, new objectives.

p. 45)
