For Your Information

CANNOT MAKE AN INTERNATIONAL CALL

For security purposes, campus telephones are not automatically set up with international capabilities. If you wish to make international calls, please contact Joseph Dyson for this functionality to be added to your phone line.

Do you have the right country and city code? There are 2 websites that you may check: Go to International Calling Codes. or International Calling Codes and World Time Zones.

EXPERIENCING RAPID BUSY SIGNALS

If you follow these steps, you might be able to make your call or at the least help me resolve the problem.

  1. Is it an number that you have called before?
    • If no, then go to the next step.
    • If yes, then contact Joe because either the phone lines are out in the area you are calling or we might have a problem on campus.
  2. Are you calling inside the 315 area code?
    • If no, go to the next step.
    • If yes, it could be a new exchange in the 315 area code, work around this problem by dialing 9-1-315 before the number to make the call. Report the new exchange to Joe, so you will not have to follow these steps again.
  3. Is it a new area code? There are 2 websites that you may check: Go to Area Code Change Details. or Recent and upcoming area code changes. To locate your area code "Press (Ctrl-F), type area code, and press Enter". Is your area code listed?
    • If no, go to the next step.
    • If yes, here's a HINT about the columns for the second website:
      • First column-is an old area code.
      • Second column-is for new area codes.
      • Second column from the end-is the mandatory date(YEAR-MONTH-DAY).
        • Yes in the 1st column and the mandatory date has passed, try the number in the 2nd column as your area code. If this does not work, then go to the next step.
        • Yes in the 2nd column and the mandatory date has not come yet, use the old area code and report it to Joe.
        • Yes in the 2nd column and the mandatory date has passed, go to the next step.
  4. Everything else has failed, contact Joseph Dyson to report your problem. Please tell me if it is an area code or an exchange.
  5. THANKS FOR TRYING TO HELP!!

NEW YORK STATE PHONEBOOKS

Phonebooks are available in my office for most of New York State. Some have fees attached, I will contact you before ordering and charging these phonebooks to your account. Most phonebooks are delivered to me anyhow, so let me order for you. This will allow me to keep track of who needs the phonebook when it arrives. Please contact Joseph Dyson for your phonebook.

The options in the table are for single-extension phones (like the one to the left). Multi-extension(Meridian) phones (like the one to the right) have an individual button for each option, except for last number redial which is accomplished by hitting your phone line number button twice.
