CS 105 Homework: Checkpoint
What to watch for (= things that can go wrong):
-
Be sure to know where you are. Which file are you editing? Which
are you viewing? (i.e be sure you aren't editing a file on your local disk
but viewing your site on Aurora). Be sure you do not create multiple and
chaotic versions of the same file in different directories on your floppy.
-
Be sure to reference your files exactly as they are named.
On the Internet (because so much of the Internet uses UNIX servers) file
names are case-sensitive and must be precise: a file named Resume.htm is
different from the file named resume.htm. Use your FTP program to
check exactly what your files are named once they have been placed on the
server, and if necessary rename them.
-
Be sure to FTP all files into your public_html directory. Files
placed anywhere else will not be visible.
-
Be sure to FTP all HTML files as ASCII and all images as Binary. (On
the Macintosh, use "Raw Data" for images).
-
Be sure to use short, cohesive file names. A UNIX-based system such
as Aurora will not recognize file names that have spaces or non-characters;
keep filenames short (8 characters or less).
