Welcome to the website of the Wells College Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB reviews proposals for research which involves human subjects. The purpose of this review is to ensure that research conducted follows the federal guidelines for human subjects research. These guidelines are based on the following.

• Human subjects research does not subject individuals to more emotional, physical, or psychological risk than they are likely to experience in their everyday lives.
• Individuals are given enough information about a project to be able to give informed consent to participate.
• Extra risk, cost, stress, or use of deception is justified and necessary.

The IRB consists of a Committee which handles IRB oversight and the IRB Roster which reviews proposals. Contact any Committee member if you have questions or would like to volunteer to be a part of the Committee or the Roster.
