Present: Faculty members E. Olson (Chair), K. Klitgaard, D. Gagnon, J. Goddard; Registrar K. Leybold-Taylor; Associate Dean C. Speaker; Dean L. Miller-Bernal; Associate Library Director M. Godbout; Students N. Bates (WILL), R.Laury, A. Pizarro-Lopez.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Olson 8:35 am.
1. Announcements: None
2. Minutes: Approved as written.
3. Old Business: Curriculum
EDU 260 was approved as were the ten new or modified WLLS 101 courses. Three of the 13 WLLS 101 selections have been taught before and did not need re-approval.
4. New Business: Scheduling and Wait listing
Wait listing overview: The 9:30-10:20 a.m. M, W, F slot has 17 courses. Karla would like to see a few of these courses moved to other time slots like the 8:30 a.m. time slot. In the past, the 8:30 a.m. slot has not offered as many courses as it could have. -- Moving some courses from the 9:30-10:20 a.m. M, W, F slot will allow the students a better selection of courses. In some instances, this will also lessen wait listing.
Karla would like to see Wells 101 course scheduling decisions made by this week because Wells warm-up for accepted students begins April 14 - These students will pick three Wells 101 courses that they are interested in for fall.
Seminars are courses that meet once a week and in the afternoon for approximately three hours. Overview: Seminars work well in some disciplines like in the area of humanities, while possibly not so well in the areas of language and the sciences; where meeting two to three times a week works out better. -- Jeanne says that seminar courses do not work well for adjunct faculty professors. The students were asked how they felt about seminars: Raquele does not like seminar classes. Aleris likes her current seminar with Professor Lohn, however, the seminar format is not her favorite. Nancy likes seminar courses. She says as an off campus, commuter student with other responsibilities besides college, seminars provide both convenience and allow her the time to complete her homework assignments. -- There was much discussion on both wait listing and scheduling. -- A subcommittee to better address these concerns and to make recommendations was suggested.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 am.
Next Meeting: Friday, April 11 at 8:30 am.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Bates
