Minutes of the March 26, 2008 APPC Meeting

Present:
Professors Gagnon, Goddard, Klitgaard, Olson (chair), Siamundele, and Wahl; Student Representatives Bates, Pizarro-Lopez, and Laury; Registrar Leybold-Taylor; Dean Miller-Bernal, and Associate Dean Speaker.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Olson at 12:34 pm and began with the Chair’s thanks for meeting at this unusual time. A reminder was made that the Committee would also meet on Friday, March 28th at 8:00am in order to accommodate the Activism Symposium.

Approval of Minutes:
Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes of the March 14, 2008 meeting. Discussion included correction of Professor Klitgaard’s name. Minutes approved as corrected.

Old Business:  Professor Olson did check that SOC 315, Men and Masculinities, should have a "prohibited course" constraint. Students who took SOC 385 Gender & Aggression are not eligible for SOC 315.

New Business:  Motions made and seconded to approve the Humanities and Arts Divisions' curricular proposals were approved.

Items of note during discussion of the curriculum:

Professor Wahl asked about the German concentration in FLLC and whether there would be adequate staffing to cover it which led to a discussion about the concentration.

Registrar Leybold-Taylor will check with Professor Roberts on ART 285 as to when the course will be meeting given that it was proposed as a 4-credit course and not a 3-credit art course which would typically meet for 6 hrs during the week.

Professor Goddard will check with Professor Grady about having POI listed as a prerequisite for THEA 330, 331, 332, and 333.

Since the Committee was able to complete its review of the curriculum today, there will be no meeting on Friday, March 28th.  The Committee’s next meeting will be on Friday, April 4th at 8:30am at which time the Committee will review any last minute curriculum proposals received by the Registrar.

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 1:37 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Dean Speaker, Secretary pro tem
