APPC Minutes--2/15/2008
8:40-9:30 a.m.
Present: Goddard, Klitgaard, Olson (chair), Dean Miller-Bernal, Associate
Dean Speaker, Godbout, Leybold-Taylor; students Nancy Bates, Raquele Laury,
Aleris Pizarro-Lopez.
Minutes: The minutes of the 2/08/2008 meeting were approved
The Spanish position has gone through.
Questions that were brought up were that maybe next time the request should
not be as specific as it was.
We then discussed the other positions
Most of the positions were in some way connected to one another.
We have decided that there were other questions that needed to be answered
before we could make any decisions on the request. Questions such as would these positions be long-time positions with the
increase of student enrollment. "do we sacrifice the way we run our classes
to accommodate the growing body of students?"
FLLC German questions: should it still be included because its up for debate in the 10 year academic planning committee. If it gets to be only a minor it would
be a little more self-sustained
Visual Arts- concerns with a one person dept. We have to think of this like
a discipline.
Performing Arts- there is nothing in the curriculum about this subject. It
is a place where most students will be more likely given a job; has plenty
of opportunities; this is more of a male field and now that there are more
males enrolling in the school it would be a great asset to the school; we lose
students due to the lack of technology and designing in the curriculum.
English- increase in enrollment. What are appropriate class sizes? Are courses long-term?
At this point we have no additional position available and the likelihood of
positions being given is not big.
Class limit was brought up a few times.
Next Meeting:
We still have the Women's Studies/Philosophy request to discuss and then after
this we will try to rank the positions. We will then begin to talk about the
Middle States Self-Study Quesitons.
