At the meeting:
Heather announced that we're back to calling the Mardi Gras event "Jamnesty"...even if the regional office isn't okay with the name. She'll be getting recommendations of speakers from the regional office and Julia will be talking to possible speakers from Cornell. Right now we're looking for a focus, a theme, for the event. If you have an idea, let Heather know.
Melanie gave an explanation of Urgent Actions and a bit of the history of the Urgent Action Network. We'll be making signs to put on the tables in the dining hall with a short explanation of Urgent Actions on one side and the next urgent action info on the other side.
Julia talked about the Amnesty Meeting at Cornell. I regret that I didn't write down every little thing she said, but of particular interest was fundraising ideas. Suggestions were bake sales, "Free a Turk, Win a Turkey", a pie throwing contest, sleep outs, and putting a well liked member of the Wells community in a cage outside and getting donations to free the poor individual from the cage...not nearly as sadistic as it sounds, I assure you.
Sarah said Hillel is interested in partnering up with Amnesty to do a film series in the spring for the Holocaust Memorial.
Melanie got t-shirt costs for us. For now, the cheapest option looks like ProSport Unlimited. If you want to know what those prices are, let me know and I'll email them out.
A few people stayed over the meeting time and we made signs to advertise our meeting time that will be going up in as many buildings as we can put them in. I already put mine up around Zabriskie if anyone wants to see what we did. =)
See you all next week!
