Tonight's Agenda was:
1. T-Shirt Update
2. Mardi Gras
3. Urgent Action
Info Booth
Tabling
4. Movies
Regarding the T-Shirt contest, Gary Aubin has donated 2 $20.00 certificates to the Sommer Center
We talked about getting bands to play for our Mardi Gras festivities. Suggestions were Prof. Penniman's band, Discontinuo, also Prof. Vawter's band...we think they're the Bottomfeeders, and Canada's band. Admission fees were set at $3.00 for Wells/Children/Seniors and $5.00 for Community. We'd like to get some speakers from the Ithaca area, perhaps from Cornell.
Melanie and Stephanie offered to work on the info booth for the urgent actions, tentatively scheduled for the 2nd week of November. For Tabling, we need to think of 10 prisoners of conscience to focus the urgent actions on.
As for movies, the first movie idea was for something not really Amnesty related, but sure to be an entertaining bonding movie for all. The movie (drum roll please) is Robin Williams Live on Broadway. I've been assured it's absolutely hilarious, though I've yet to see it. We'll be showing the movie in the Weld lounge on October 21st, time yet to be determined. There'll be popcorn, and probably apple cider. Bring friends, meet the members....laugh hysterically. (hopefully not at the members)
We decided our first video series theme would be the Holocaust. We will try to collaborate with Hillel on this. The first series will probably run in November and the movies will be:
Life Is Beautiful
Nuremberg
Schindler's List
Anne Frank
Other theme ideas were centered around Asia and Africa. Other movie suggestions were:
Inn of the Sixth Happiness
7 Years in Tibet
The Joy Luck Club
Ghandi
Brokedown Palace
Sarafina
The Magdalene Sisters
Last Empire
a PBS special on Africa
The White Balloon
And with that, I leave you to your regularly scheduled programming. See you next Wednesday!
