Minutes 10/01/03

At tonight's meeting:

We cleaned up our two file-cabinet drawers. There were a lot of things in there we simply didn't need and couldn't use anymore as well as some things we forgot we had.

Laura McClusky (our advisor for those who don't know) stopped by. She had a few ideas as to how we could drum up support and enthusiasm regarding urgent actions. One idea was to stage a police arrest in the dining hall. After the student is "taken away" one of us can stand up and explain how such events happen everyday, all over the world, and explain the urgent action. Heather mentioned Emily's idea of having a dinner and setting an empty place for prisoner's of conscience at the head of the table. Heather suggested we go to dinner early one night and set places at the head of each table with a little card explaining urgent actions. Laura also suggested a speaker we could have come to campus, Yi Ping.

We briefly talked about Mardi Gras, but many of the members were absent tonight due to writing papers, so we couldn't get into too much detail. Mardi Gras will definitely be a topic at the next meeting. Come with ideas!
