Why should I care about chemistry? Did you ever wonder how medicines are made or why they work? Perhaps on a cool fall day in central New York as you put on a jacket you looked at the trees and wondered why or how the leaves change color. Chemistry is literally all around us. The color of trees in the fall, the medicines that we take, and the clothes we wear are just a few examples of how chemistry enriches our lives. There are many different areas of chemistry to study, though I prefer to study the chemistry of living systems: how nature makes molecules and how organisms survive.
