EMT/AFA Committee Minutes for November 9, 2006
Present: L. McClusky, L. Miller-Bernal, J. Schnurr, S. Sloan, V. Spears,
A. Staples, L. LaBar, C. Speaker, M. Ryan
1. Meeting was called to order by S. Sloan at 10:10 am.
2. We discussed the document that A. Lundquist sent around about Orientation
events in the future. Basically, the on-line registration worked well last
summer (there were more students that pre-registered compared to Wells Warm-up)
and it will be used again this summer. The Jenzabar system won't be running
until Oct 2007 so that won't be available for next summer, but it will be
used in the future.
3. The optional pre-orientation program was discussed. Amy voiced some concern
that making it optional was probably not the best use of resources. Cindy
was concerned that making the program cost something to the students (even
just the time to have them arrive, Laura added) might cause a dichotomy in
the student population. The idea of having it added to the current orientation
events was suggested. Susan said that one idea is to have the WLLS 101 instructors
be involved; Jackie added that it might be best to have the WLLS 101 instructors
run the book discussions will the students that will be in their class.
4. The Roadmap piece will be distributed to students with their acceptance
letters.
5. The idea of the Enrollment handbook was discussed and supported by all,
but continued correspondence throughout the summer (such as postcards, etc)
would also be necessary to keep students excited.
6. The meeting was adjourned at 10:35.
Respectfully submitted,
Jaclyn Schnurr
