AFA MINUTES FOR SEPTEMBER 21, 2004
Present: K. Green, P. Greenwood, L. Miller-Bernal, N. Pellegrino, S. Sloan
1. The minutes of September 7 will be amended to reflect some minor changes and approved at our next meeting.
2. We discussed further whether the changes were actually made to the faculty manual regarding the charge of AFA. The revisions may need to be brought back to the faculty if there is no record of the faculty voting on them. K. Green will check her notes from last year’s committee as well as the minutes on the website to see if there is any record of a vote. Once this issue is resolved we will be better informed as to what the function of our committee is.
3. S. Sloan gave out copies of a handout that detailed the admissions/recruitment process. The committee found the handout very helpful and informative and discussed its relation to our committee.
4. We had a brief, yet interesting, conversation on the history of admissions offices.
5. We discussed the possibility of having a joint meeting with the EMT and ways to institutionalize the connection between EMT and AFA.
6. The Committee will invite other members of the community to our meetings as necessary. Don Young and Carolyn Morales were brought up as possible guests.
7. There was discussion on whether or not retention is a part of AFA and whether it is an issue that we should explore in our committee. There was conversation regarding retention and its connection to Admissions and Financial Aid.
8. We agreed to meet again next week because so many members were absent from the meeting. We will continue the agenda for this meeting and Dean Green will pick up the tab for the pizza.
9. We adjourned at about 1:30pm
Respectfully submitted,
Nicole Pellegrino
Secretary Pro Temp.
