AFA Committee
Minutes for November 28, 2007

Present: W. Ganis, S. Gilchrist, A. Godert, C. Patella, J. Schnurr

1. Meeting was called to order by A. Godert at 9:34 am.

2. Minutes of November 14 were approved.

3. We discussed the 'new' mission statement and if we can add the specific phrase "campus climate" to the duties of "retention." Amy will work on a rewrite that can hopefully be rolled into the new Faculty manual approval.

4. Jackie gave an update on the Middle States questions. They will be sent out to groups next week, and research will need to get back to the Middle States Self-Study Steering Committee before Spring Break.

5. Leslie gave a proposal for a new task for AFA - monitoring the state of 'inclusive coeducation' at Wells so that our history as a women's college doesn't get forgotten and we become just another coed college. AFA would monitor the issue of gender (and other) equity at all levels of the community (but focusing on student issues, such as elected student officers, etc), as well as helping to heighten the awareness of this issue on campus. Steve suggested that other places use an 'equity scorecard' as an indicator of equity on campus - maybe AFA could be involved with creating one for Wells. All committee members agreed that this would be a worthwhile project for AFA to take on.
