Admission and Financial Aid Committee Minutes

DRAFT

October 19, 2005

9:00 am – 10:00 am

Macmillan 317

Members present:  Karen Green, Laura McClusky, Leslie Miller-Bernal, Jackie Schnurr and Susan Sloan.

Members absent:  Angie Azevedo ’06, Alyssa Frederick ’06, Ellen Hall and Cathy Patella.

·        Chair McClusky called the meeting to order at 9:10 am. The minutes of 9/28/05 were approved.

·        Karen Green shared the retention numbers and fall enrollment statistics with the group.  Several questions arose such as what is the basis for the numbers the percentages in Karla’s reporting system.  Therefore, let the minutes reflect that Karla will be invited to future meetings when AFA views the retention and fall or spring enrollment numbers.  Further discussion was had about transfers and the need for a specific course to aid in their transition to Wells College.

·        Susan gave a brief update about the “branding” process.  Cognitive will be conducting small focus group sessions in the near future.  The intended outcome will be to formulate ways of expressing Wells’ core messages and values.  The question of a timeline was raised.  Susan estimates that ideally this would wrap-up in the spring since it has direct bearing on the creation of materials needed in her area for recruitment and retention efforts.

·        Susan shared recruitment information with the group based on this time last year.  Inquiries and campus visits are up by 100.  (2004 – 2005)  Not enough significant information yet to make any prediction about applications although there is an increase yet small in number to date.

·        Meeting adjourned at 9:55 am.

Next meeting:  Wednesday, Oct. 26 @ 9 am – Macmillan 317

Respectfully submitted,
