- Chair,
L. McClusky called meeting to an order at 9 am, and distributed an agenda
for the meeting. Last week’s (9/14) minutes approved. S. Sloan volunteered
to be webmistress for the semester.
- K. Green presented most recent
enrollment numbers:
-408 full-time, degree-seeking
students
-Dean Green will have more precise
tuition numbers, broken down by class year, GPA and sex, soon.
-4 students withdrew over the
summer, of which, 1 student left b/c of the co-ed decision, 1 student left for
financial reasons, and 2 students transferred.
-All students who pre-registered
last spring came to Wells in the fall.
- We
discussed the strategic plan to keep diversity in forefront at Wells,
(Wells College Community Standards statement, and efforts by the
Presidents committee). Dean Hall read the Community standards statement,
including goals for the upcoming school year. LMB asked if Wells was
looking in to filling Dean Morales’ position, and if so, will it be full
time? Dean Green responded that they are working on filling a full time
position, according to proposals left by Dean Morales. Dean Green then
discussed the SDC’s recent work and goals for the year.
- Susan
Sloan distributed the new diversity pamphlet (internal piece) for this
year. The committee looked over the pamphlet, making suggestions for next
year’s piece. S. Sloan also talked about the new viewbook which is
currently being put together. The photographer is coming to campus to take
photos soon (fri, 9/23).
- The
committee discussed the retention of minority students, and efforts of the
Enrollment Management Team (EMT). A suggestion was made that EMT should
work with AFA, or send them reports on their work, on a monthly basis.
Dean Green talked about the current retention efforts of the college,
highlighting that they look at rates as a whole, and not by any group. And
what current problems are being addressed right now. Such as, WILL
students getting a suite on campus as a common space. They are also
working on starting a mentoring program, by which they would discuss the
transition to co-education with other schools that have gone co-ed. As
part of this mentoring program, there are 13 teams that will be sponsoring
formal events, such as a dinner, cultural event and community service
project. Their goal is to build a stronger connection between the faculty/staff
and students.
- Meeting
was ended at 10. Only first 3 items of the agenda were addressed
Respectfully submitted,
Alyssa Frederick
