AFA Committee
Minutes for September 19, 2007
Present: W. Ganis, S. Gilchrist, A. Godert, K. Maple, A. Lundquist, C. Patella, J. Schnurr
1. Meeting was called to order by A. Godert at 9:30 am.
2. Minutes of September 7 were approved.
3. We discussed the other student member - student elections were held the week of Sept. 10, but we still don't know the outcome. We should hear soon.
4. A. Lundquist gave an update on what EMT has been doing. They have been meeting weekly and working on the Enrollment Management Plan, which includes an analysis of the past enrollment data and goals for the future. They have also been working on more immediate concerns, such as having enough beds for incoming freshmen, course enrollment, and how OCS fits in with the fall semester. Anne recommended that AFA spend more time with the CIRP data to make some recommendations to EMT about Admissions.
5. Middle States self-study committee is meeting today and will also send along some tasks.
6. Anne and Deb Gagnon will be presenting data to the Board of Trustees on why students withdraw from Wells. Amy will invite Deb to our next meeting so that AFA can also hear this presentation.
7. William handed out an article by James Twitchell, School Daze , Chapter 3 in Branded Nation: The Marketing of Megachurch, College, Inc, and Museumworld . We will read it for our next meeting.
8. We discussed our charge as it relates to the attracting and retaining of International Students. AFA is willing to work with Admissions on its Diversity Strategic Plan to brainstorm ideas.
9. Amy will contact Tom Stiadle about getting the new Mission statement on the ballot for approval at the next Faculty meeting.
10. Meeting was adjourned at 10:10. Our next meeting will be October 10 at 9:30.
