AFA Committee
Minutes for September 7, 2007

Present: W. Ganis, S. Gilchrist, A. Godert, K. Maple, A. Lundquist, J. Schnurr, S. Sloan

1. Meeting was called to order by J. Schnurr at 9:30 am.

2. J. Schnurr, as departing chair, gave an overview of what AFA does, and reviewed the suggested new Mission statement that includes the Director of Institutional Diversity as a member. This mission statement should be distributed to the faculty and voted on this semester. A. Lundquist gave an overview of the changes to EMT.

3. We discussed the other student member - student elections are being held the week of Sept. 10.

4. We elected A. Godert Chair and W. Ganis will be our webkeeper.

5. We discussed potential meeting times. Wednesday at 9:30 am worked for everyone present! Our next meeting will be Sept. 19.

6. Susan gave a quick update on the numbers of students. There are 174 1st year students and 74 transfers, for a total of approximately 554 students on campus.

7. There was a discussion of why students leave Wells - as part of the retention part of AFA. Data is still being analyzed by A. Lundquist and D. Gagnon but there will be an update soon. W. Ganis has an interesting article for us all to read.

8. A. Lundquist gave an update on Orientation - what worked, what didn't. Overall, things worked well, but transfers need something different than incoming freshmen.

9. Meeting was adjourned at 10:30.

Respectfully submitted,

Jaclyn Schnurr
