Advisory Committee Report to the Faculty
December 12, 2000
The Advisory Committee consisting of Professors Waltraut Deinert, Beatrice Farnsworth, Kent Klitgaard, and Arnold Shilepsky (Chair) met one or more times a week throughout the semester.
We held the required open meeting early in the semester to discuss the concerns of the faculty. The low level of reimbursement for use of a personal vehicle was discussed. A member of the Advisory Committee brought this concern to the Vice President and Treasurer and the rate of reimbursement has been raised from 22 to 28 cents a mile for the next academic year. Most of the discussion at the open meeting related to establishing a retirement program and to site planning for Wells College. A summary of this meeting was emailed to the faculty.
Individual members of the committee participated in the President’s ad hoc Committee on Faculty Salaries, attended the meeting of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board, participated on the Bridge Committee, worked with members of the staff and administration on the analysis of health plans, and distributed faculty travel funds. The Advisory Committee's web page was maintained to make important documents and information available to the faculty and to facilitate the work of the committee.
The Committee participated in the evaluation of five colleagues for reappointment, promotion, and/or tenure. The Committee reviewed and made recommendations on four sabbatical applications.
The Committee appointed a subcommittee to study and recommend retirement programs for Wells College faculty members. The Committee members are Jenny Yates, Chair, Leslie Miller-Bernal, Victoria Munoz, and Arnold Shilepsky. The subcommittee will hand out a questionnaire concerning retirement at this meeting.
Respectfully Submitted,
Arnold Shilepsky, Chair
