SPSS Viewer

This is a "free" utility offered by SPSS with its license so that other people can view SPSS output. With it you can View an SPSS Output file, move elements around in the Outline, and Print what is there. You can’t edit any graphs.

But if you install this on your own computer you can take the disk with your output and print your graphs on your own printer; if it has color you can get the graphs as you see them on the screen.

Installation requires 34MB of space. They claim it works on Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000.

In the lab we tried it on XP and it seemed happy.

On ME it complained that it was not suitable—Details gave a list of dll files that should be preserved. However it installed and ran fine anyhow. The question would be whether it messes up anything else. Dave from Computer Support says he has seen such messages before and has never had anything mess up from installing despite the warnings. However, if you have ME, install it at your own risk.

To install: Borrow a CD from the box outside my office. Open the CD and the Viewer folder. Find the file Setup.exe (with the icon of the computer & screen) and double click it.

It will want a serial number, but is happy with any old number. (I used 35421 or something like that, because the real serial number starts with 3).

You do not have a license number—if you did it would cost, and do more. Leave that blank, and continue. It should go smoothly.

Please return the CD so someone else may use it.

(Let me know if this is worth having, for future students.)
