Assignment 12   Due Monday, Day 19, May 7
You can do all your printouts at once on the same page, if you like.  But: Be sure to write the things asked for.
  • A. (beginning Ch.2)  Work  pp. 12-13, using Sample.sav.  Insert  a new text label (see notes above) explaining that this is for Day = 1 people only (who are they?? MWF or TTH?). Hand in the printout of  your work, including label.
  • B. (after Ch.2) Enter Practice Data Set 2, p. 108. Save it as Pracdata2.sav.
    • a) Use Transform>Recode (like p. 15-16) to Make a new variable, Longterm, which codes 11 or more years of service to 3, 6 to 10 years to 2, and 5 or fewer to 1.  Label the values in Longterm as 3=Long, 2= Med, 1=Short.
    • b) Use Transform Compute (like p. 14) toMake another new variable Seniorty (only 8 letters allowed) which combines years of service with education as Seniorty = YOS + 2*Educ; that is, a year more education is "worth" the same as 2 years of service. Save the data file.
    • c) Find the means of  Seniorty and Longterm (You can do them both at once--just move both variables into the box. You get a lot of other stuff too.)  Print this table out, circling the means.  Write on your paper whether the mean is a sensible measure to apply to Seniority.  To Longterm.  Hand in.
  • C. (after sec. 3.1)  Practice Data Set 1 should be in Class Materials/CS103/SPSS Stuff/Pracdata1.sav
    • a) Do Practice Exercise, p.20 top.
    • b) Find the median, 1st and 3rd quartiles, and the maximum  and minimum of the math skill scores. On the printout,  draw, by hand, a boxplot. Hand in.
