FINAL PROJECTS FOR CS 102

There will be no final exam in CS 102. Instead, you will create a spreadsheet and a database using the software you used during the term. Your work is due Tuesday, December 12 at 11 AM.

1.  Create a workbook of your own choosing using Microsoft Excel. Your spreadsheets should include formulas and charts. Hand in the following:

a.  A detailed description of your worksheet(s) and each chart.
b.  A printout of the worksheet.
c.  A printout of each chart.
d.  Excel disk file(s). (see below)
2.  Create a database with one or more tables in Microsoft Access. Hand in:
a.  A detailed description of your database and its purpose.
b.  A sorted version of a table.
c.  Output to show you can update a record, add a record, delete a record and modify a table structure.
d.  Output from two or more queries or forms.
e.  Access disk file(s).
General Comments:

I recommend you select spreadsheet and database applications that are of interest and use to you. Their design, not the amount of information you put in them, is most important. (E.g. if you decide to catalog your personal library of books, don’t enter all of them.)

I want both printed information and copies of your disk files. You may leave me your disk, use a disk I gave you, or I will copy your files onto one of my disks.

If you have a problem with attendance (more than 1 absence) or late homework (more than 2) you must do additional work to get credit for the course. Possibilities include doing more advanced projects and/or doing additional work from the text.  See me for approval.
