Minutes, 11/1/04
Present: APPC members Professors Bennett, Uddin, Penniman, Staples, Sievers
and Talbot. Registrar Leybold-Taylor; Head Librarian Vargo;Dean Denard;
Student members Pellegrino, Smith, Jordan and Jaber. ASA members Professors
Garrett, Heinekamp, Collmer, Dean Green and Dean Koester, and
Nancy Karpinski, Director of Internships and Career Services

Meeting was called to order at 12:35

Minutes from 10/25 were tabled until 11/8

Discussion was opened regarding the new proposal for experiential learning.

Discussion included concerns over:

  The definition of experiential learning,and whether the definition should include off-campus study.

  Whether to change the January requirement to a general requirement

  The shortening of the January intersession

  How many experiences should be required/credit hours

  Position of WILL students

  Whether these requirements would conflict with major internship/student teaching requirements

  The role of experiential learning in supplementing majors

  A modified version of the proposal will be brought back to APPC for approval then passed to ASA and then (if all goes well) presented to the faculty.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:35
