The APPC proposal for Experiential
Learning was tabled at the
February 8, 2005 Faculty meeting with the following questions or objections
- A definition of Experiential
Learning is needed.
- More discussion needed about
independent research in a lab or
in the field
- If a student wants to graduate
early, what are the requirements?
- Who decides what is an acceptable
Experiential Learning
experience? The faculty advisor, the major program or the division?
- The proposal has an affect on
advising load which needs to be
addressed.
- Has the Internship program been
evaluated?
The proposal will come up again
at the next Faculty Meeting,
March 8, 2005
- Report on the BOT meeting
Professor Bennett had nothing
to add to the report he and Professor Thoburn gave at yesterday's Faculty
meeting which will be available in those minutes.
- Approval of December 6, 2004 APPC minutes
The minutes of the December
6, 2004 APPC meeting were approved with changes which will be made by Professor
Staples.
- Decision about meeting day and time for the semester
The decision about day and
time for the APPC meeting has not yet been finalized. The two choices
are currently Thursdays at 12:30 or Fridays at 8:30 and the chair will
seek to reach resolution and report the results
The following agenda items were not addressed:
- Spring 2005 agenda
- Wells 101-102 overhaul
- curriculum approval for Fall 2005 (2-3 meetings)
- assessment process and role of APPC
-student input from class representatives to APPC
- Dean Denard distributed information about a recent meeting of the
Association of American Colleges and Universities on "The Greater Expectations
Vision of Liberal Education" which she recently attended.
- It was announced that there will be a Collegiate election to fill
2 student member vacancies.
- The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 am.
