The meeting came to order at 11:35 am. with Profs. Stasz, Olson, Muñoz,and Deans Hall and Martinez in attendance.
Agenda:
--Secretary responsibilities will rotate each meeting --Begin Discussion
of Learning Disabilities: self-identification, testing provisions, accommodation,
move toward consolidation of services
Discussion:
Diversity issues have begun to be addressed but LD isues haven't been addressed as proposed in the AFA Report to Faculty S'99 on Diversity.
Need to address LD issues and move forward. Bird will gather information relevant to moving forward on issues of LD. Diane Koester (DK) has sent memo via campus mail on new guidelines for LD in highr education. Teresa Reeves is working on LD issues this term while DK is on sabbatical. TR will be invited to next AFA meeting.
Preparation and agenda-in-progress for next meeting Oct. 18, 11:30 am. Macmillan 326 (Philosophy Lib):
1. Read AFA Report on Diversity which is posted on AFA website on aurora.
2. Read DK memo and guidelines on LD
3. Consider short-term (now) and long-term (master planning, info to
give architect) regarding Learning Center.
4. What do we have to do to make the Learning Center a reality? Invite
Michelle Landers?
5. Bird will bring cost figures after talking with people at CCC and
H&WS about their learning centers.
