Present: Prof. Munoz (Chair), Dean Hall, S. Sloan, Dean Green, Prof.
Reis, Dean Martinez, M. McCune (Student Representative), and C. Bellomo
1) Where are the minutes of December 5th? Whoever was responsible for
these minutes should forwarded them to Victoria.
2) Sarah Knopp, the other student representative to AFA, cannot make
the
meeting time scheduled this semester. Rachel Young has been notified
to
find a replacement.
3) We will meet every Tuesday except when the Presidentís Committee
on
Diversity meets. There are overlapping membership in both committees
from many AFA committee members. Next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb
18th
at 12:15pm.
4) M. McCune gave an update of the student survey. She has compiled
all
the questions submitted onto a disk and categorized them into areas
i.e.
admissions, financial aid, academic, etc. General questions were added
to the end of the survey. The survey has a 1-5 scale with (5) being
the
highest (strongly agree). The committee members will be sent a copy
of
the survey for review. Please submit all comments to Meghan.
Discussion from the group centered on how we would distribute this
survey to students. The survey is intended for sophomores, juniors,
and
seniors. Freshmen will receive the "First Year Experience" survey that
is a national survey used by many institutions, so it provides
comparison data as well. Various means to distribute the survey was
discussed: dining hall, faculty classes, dorm rooms. C. Bellomo
expressed a concern with a survey handed out in the dining hall because
she felt that students might talk in groups at their tables instead
of
individually completing the survey. M. McCune offered the suggestion
that the survey could be handed out in the dining hall similar to how
Collegiate elections are run. Students will sign for the survey and
complete it right there at tables set up for this purpose.
Questions about how to distribute this survey to WILL students was
discussed since they do not eat in the dining hall. This issue at
present has not been resolved.
M. McCune will let the student body know of the upcoming survey at the
general student meeting this Wednesday. She will also attend
Collegiate.
5) Discussion occurred on whether the committee wanted to change the
charge of the
AFA as noted in the faculty manual and the revised charge that was
approved by the faculty in a straw vote. Dean Hall pointed out that
the
faculty manual could be revised at this time. The committee agreed
to
working on a revised charged of the AFA Committee for the faculty
manual.
Prof. Reis will draft a revised mission statement using both the current
faculty manual and the present revised charged. It was agreed that
retention should be added to the AFA charge. The new charge will also
note the link the Enrollment Management Team has with AFA i.e. the
data
agreed to be shared with AFA. S. Sloan will review other institutions
that have similar committees to see what their committeeís roles are
within their institutions.
6) S. Sloan will bring to the next meeting folders of marginal
candidates for faculty
review.
